I hope you grow as a producer and make better music - no matter how good you are already:). People do stupid stuff all the time - but fortunately, this is a fixable stupid thing. I wouldn't be surprised if you now have hundreds of beginner producers making loads of pieces with exactly your progression and not thinking twice about making their own.Final note: I'm not meaning to attack you personally or call you stupid at all - I'm just explaining why what you did was stupid. Don't damage the mindsets of all the people that watch your video - encourage understanding and good music, not whatever works. Throw in a diminished chord as an excuse to explain how you can take it literally anywhere after that to a new key or an entirely new progression with a new feel and emotion. Explain the intervals and inversions and cadences.Įxplain passing notes and non-parallel harmony. What I recommend is that you make a second video about making them with theory to show how much better it can be with theory and all the amasing things you can do with it. These type of guides only encourage a really bad mindset that can instantly ruin a person's music for a very long time. Trust me - I see it everywhere.Music theory leads to better music and a better confidence and understanding of what you are actually doing - and claiming that theory isn't needed just shows how lazy a person is - and that I should probably be too lazy to listen to their music or acknowledge them as a music writer.Bottom line(s): Learn theory. No theory leads to modern pop which is just depressing.If you don't know theory, you'll likely never think about developing a melody or using interesting time-changes or producing coherent and beautiful chords - you'll be stuck with 4 chords and a melody to repeat for 2-5 minutes depending on genre. Sure you can write something without theory, but you will never be able to do much unless you learn theory.
